I was born and raised in the South of Haiti to a 13 year old mother. She didn’t get to experience a youthful life. A large part of why I’m committed to living my life so fully is because I want to show her that she is still young. Her life is still so full of potential and aching to be lived.

In Haiti, life isn’t easy, but the people are joyful. We always found ways to eat. It’s that inherent resourcefulness that informs my journey in America. I moved here at the age of 12. It’s then that I was exposed to women like Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, and Imaan. I didn’t have these types of role models to look up to back home. Seeing women who look like me living how they did opened up a new pathway in my mind.

Timeless Beauty.

The road hasn’t been smooth. I’ve endured a lot of struggles since moving to America. I moved to Los Angeles when I was 20 years old with $50 in my pocket. Faith fueled me. My potential pulled me forward. The idea of who I might become if I just keep going is what has carried me this far.

My happiness lies in creation. It’s the thing that wakes me each morning. The opportunity to approach life differently than I did yesterday is thrilling. Like a butterfly in the chrysalis awaiting the possibility of new life, new adventures inspire me. Since birth, I’ve felt like the chosen one for my family. They’re relying on me. My child self is relying on me. I am a seed that has been planted to grow and feed my nation. So, like the butterfly, I have to keep growing. I have to transform in order to fly.
