Catch Shangela and Betty Who at the Brand New Los Angeles LGBT Center Campus Ribbon Cutting

We are already living for (and staning the hell out of) the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s brand new Anita May Rosenstein Campus—officailly opening this Sunday, April 7th with a wig-snatching lineup of some of our favorite queer performers, entertainers, creators, activists, and policy-makers.

The world’s largest provider for the LGBT community celebrates their 50th anniversary by expanding their services and programs by opening an intergenerational campus of 100 rooms for LGBT youth, a youth academy, youth drop-in center, a senior community center (with 99 rooms for seniors coming 200), and an expanded health care facility to give a room of their own to queer senior citizens and youth—helping battle the unfortunate stat that, according to the Human Rights Campaign, some 40% of homeless youth are LGBTQ.

The campus, designed in collaboration with Killefer Flammang Architects and LeongLeong (who WOW-ed us at the 14th Venice Biennial with their sleek U.S. Pavillion) welcomes all with spacious communal zones, whimsical notes, and wide windows stretching to embrace glorious southern California sunshine, all in the heart of vibrant, eclectic Hollywood.

Emceeing the grand-opening of the campus is Shangela Laquifa Wadely, of A Star is Born and Rupaul’s Drag Race fame. Halleloo!

Guests of the ribbon-cutting can also expect performances by “Somebody Loves You” singer (and pop icon) Betty Who, the Trans Chorus of LA, and many others, as well as speeches by Lily Tomlin, U.S. Representative Adam Schiff, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetii, and Anita May Rosenstein, the legend the campus proudly sports the lovely name of, her very self. Other notable appearances include Kathy Griffin, Wilam Belli, Franki Grande, and Lisa Vanderpump.

We welcome the campus and it’s new residents warmly to our beloved Hollywood ‘hood. We look forward to the stories and narratives fostered—to watching the continued ascension our new neighbors rising to the top through the Center’s incredible programming as they become the creatives, activists, and performers taking up prime real estate on the billboards of Hollywood.
